There’s always a touch of anxiety whenever I finish a painting: what should I paint next? I woke up in the middle of the night, seeing this setup. I was definitely in the mood to paint something wild. Something different! Not the same old, “safe” setup. I even knew the fabric to use. So, after putting the last few tweaks onto the last apples painting, I set up this arrangement. Picasso, my #1 favorite cat, had to investigate things, of course.
Here’s how it looks so far. Drawing it in is always critical. When I first started painting still lifes, I sometimes would end up with objects falling off the canvas. I’ake a good look through my little view finder when setting up the composition, then pick out an object that is more-or-less in the center, then carefully size everything else in relation to that.
