
Another one of those gloomy days here in northern Michigan. I thought I’d go nuts if I didn’t go paint something. I cruised down Old Dixie Highway to Norwood, hoping to see something interesting at the beach. There’s a section of swampy land along the way, filled with cattails, struggling spruce and lots of dead trees. The city’s been cutting away all the “undesirable” trees. Somehow this one’s escaped. At least for the time-being. I thought it looked interesting enough to paint.
It was cold and spitting rain, so I sat inside my car to paint. Quite a trick — my current car, a Bronco Sport, is rather cramped. Had to balance my palette on my lap, hoping not to spill — it’s a lease! Here’s a photo of how I had to work:
