
Old Dixie Highway runs along the east shoreline of Lake Michigan from Eastport to Norwood. I live just a stone’s throw away. It’s bordered on both sides by 150-year old maple trees, many of which are dying. I’ve been meaning to get out there and paint, but I’m kind of wary of setting up too close to them — they’re so old, they could topple at any moment.
Here’s my setup:

That’s a glimpse of Guyer Creek on the right. My neighbors and I have a battle going on with some beavers that are trying to create their own shangri-la. I like beavers and I like ponds, but my studio might get flooded with a pond back there. The neighbors are waiting for a permit to set beaver traps. We’re all looking forward to trying “roast beaver” at some point…..
