Day 2: Pink Caladiums

Looking for Day 1? Good luck! I didn’t write one. Yesterday I was just too tired. I’ve always liked caladiums — especially when somebody else is growing them. Yesterday morning I waltzed over to Pine Hill Nursery and snapped a few up (on sale, of course) for a still life.

That cloth is actually some kind of Chinese (?) Japanese (?) print with foo dogs. But I didn’t want to show the dogs. I chose it for the colors, so I wadded it up here and there to “obscure the foos”. And you know how I love painting fabric folds.

Caladiums don’t hold still! Ever so slowly, they’re always twisting towards the sun. Young leaves unfold; old ones die.

If you’ve been following my posts, you’ll most likely be wondering where is the cat? I kept a close eye on Mr. Wonderful and instructed him NOT to get up on my setup. He loves rolling around and yanking the fabric. In this case, it would screw things up. So I encouraged him to wait it out outside. Poor baby….
