Eclipse 2024

“Eclipse 2024 From My Backyard in Eastport” — plein air field study in oil on board — 8×10″ by Margie Guyot

We only got 90% totality here in northern Michigan, but still — I knew I’d never forgive myself if I didn’t at least try to paint it. This morning I set up my easel in the front yard and drew in the basic design. I had no idea how dark it might get, so I figured I should at least have something to work with if things turned pretty dark. Here’s what I put down at 10 AM (below). Then I went into the studio to work on my still life for a few hours.

That’s Bernie Sanders, my Siamese. He slept through the whole event, of course.

The sky darkened a bit and the birds fell silent. I felt the temperature fall a bit. So — it was FUN! Now it’s back to the grindstone on the current still life. Stay tuned!
