Return to “Deliverance”

Another GORGEOUS day here! I loaded my paints into the car and took off, heading for a couple seasonal roads I’d noticed last fall. I’d not been able to go down either one until today. Above is a photo of one I’ll never forget…

But first let me show you the first (and only) painting of the day. It was on a different seasonal road:

“Seasonal Road – Early April” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 8×16″ by Margie Guyot

And here’s my setup:

After finishing this one, I ventured down another seasonal road, hoping to get another painting in. Lordy! What an adventure that was! It went back through the woods and over high ridges for what seemed like miles. Here’s another view. I can just about hear the banjos:

I was curious about where that road went. Well — I hit some kind of settlement back there at the end that told me I’d better get the ***k outta there in a hurry! I’d never seen so many junk cars and trucks scattered about. Junk everywhere. And a couple dogs barking. I didn’t dare take a photo – there were about 4 or 5 people standing, glaring at me. Looked like they were ready to start shooting! I rolled down the window and said, “Sorry! I was just wondering where this road went!” and they started yelling something at me. I turned my little Bronco around quickly as possible while the guy’s yelling Don’t run over my dog!!! Don’t worry, buddy….I”m outta here!!! Lordy! Shades of “Deliverance”. Or “Winter’s Bone”, if any of you had seen it!

That kind of put an end to my longing to paint any more landscapes this afternoon. Instead, I came straight home and hugged my dear kitties.

OK, ok — if you’re wondering about the still life I’d been working on, I did manage to dabble a little more on it this morning while waiting for it to warm up a bit outside. The rainy weather returns — just in time for tomorrow’s eclipse. Doggone…..
