Happy Begonias – The Final Version

“Happy Begonias” — oil on canvas 30×30″ by Margie Guyot

This was a tough one to photograph and get the colors right. Yesterday it was super-cloudy again and I couldn’t see the sunshine/shadow forms in the lower right, so I kind of fudged it. But it bothered me, so this morning I invented sunlight patterns in that area. The great wild life artist, Robert Bateman, told our class that if we weren’t pleased with how something turned out, we shouldn’t be afraid to try to make it right. “If you ruin it — so what? You ruined something you didn’t like that well anyway!”

LIkewise, the great landscape painter, Clyde Aspevig, told us to “never be afraid to experiment”.

Here’s a closeup of some of the detail:

As you’ve probably guessed, I love bright colors. “Beige is the color of DEATH!” as they say…..
