“Picasso”

“Picasso” — oil on board 6×4″ by Margie Guyot

I’d found this frame years ago in a junk pile. Bumped into it again the other day in my studio and decided it was perfect for a cat painting. A regal frame for a regal cat: Picasso! He’s my #1 beloved cat. I picked him up from the middle of Old Dixie Highway back in September of 2009. Here’s how he looked that day:

He’s the most intelligent, loyal, loving cat I’ve ever known. While my 2 other cats snooze on the bed all day, he’s by my side, following me everywhere. He’ll take about 5 steps, then stop, turn and wait to be petted. He sleeps next to me at night and licks my face. Such a pal!

After doing a marathon of 6×6″ floral paintings for the shops, I must admit this has been the most satisfying painting I’ve done in ages. We’re right in the middle of the “winter blahs” here in Michigan and there’s only so many “dreary winter” paintings the galleries will take around here, so maybe I’ll do a series of cat paintings for a while….
