Strong winds, snow, power outtages here today, so I wimped out and painted in the studio today. I did 10 more of the 6×6″ irises. I saved a flower catalog from last year — so I was copying from that. I hadn’t painted any iris with that real deep black/purple color before. It was rather interesting. I liked the drama of it, I still need to paint the backgrounds when these paintings have dried. I just do them all in white. Yes, I’d love to paint them from life, but I only have a limited variety here (thanks to the deer). And their bloom season is relatively short. Seems like when the iris are in bloom there are a hundred other things that need doing, too.
