What to Do on a Rainy Day —

Works-in-Progess: Irises on 6×6″ stretched canvas by Margie Guyot

…Or — what to do on a snowy day. I was in the mood to crank out some irises in shades of blues and purples. I have to use a flower catalog for reference. Iris season is relatively short and it happens to fall right when gardening season starts up. Best to just paint irises in leisure. Right now the landscapes in Michigan seem to be predominately gray and white, so flowers are a cheerier option. I still need to paint their stems and backgrounds. I use the gallery-wrapped canvases, carrying the painting around all the sides. And it seems sawtooth hangers work better than picture wire on this small size.

Last week I painted some poppies….

And then there are always apples.
