The other day the sky would be the clearest blue for about 20 minutes, then as soon as I’d pack up to go painting, it’d be totally cloud-covered. Back and forth like that all day. Then later in the afternoon it looked like it’d be clear for a while, so I thought I’d just go take a chance. But I had just put a chicken in the oven (!) so I didn’t want to be gone too long. So — I just drove down the road about 1/3 mile to the neighbor’s hillside. Painted as fast as I could. The clouds rolled in again (of course) about 20 minutes into the painting.
