Painting Corn in a Blizzard

“Sweet Corn on a Vintage Cloth” — oil on canvas 18×24″ by Margie Guyot

I’d been on a major organizing/cleaning blitz lately and came across this painting. I’d begun it last summer but set it aside for some reason. I think I’d felt frustrated with it at the time, hoping maybe the fairies would appear and magically fix it. Today I decided to sit down and figure it out. A far better choice than slogging out to paint in the blizzard. It’s the first one of the year here and everybody’s whining. By the end of winter, this will seem like a rather nice day.

I had help today. My dear cat, Picasso sat on my lap the whole time, purring and kneading biscuits. I think he was glad he wasn’t out in the blizzard, too.

And here’s a shot of part of my deer herd that shows up every day for apples. Maybe I’ll do a painting with them sometime. Note the wire cage in the foreground. I’m trying to save a young witch hazel from getting chewed to bits by ruthless deer. It’s a love/hate relationship.
