Ranney Road – September

“Ranney Road – September” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 8 x 16″ by Margie Guyot

Maybe I should call this “Return to Ranney Road”. I’ve painted it several times over the last few years. I just love this spot! And it’s a real trick to get here. The section of Ranney Road that I really like runs south off the Ellsworth/East Jordan Road. And it’s a “seasonal road”, meaning it’s not plowed in the winter. Well! It’s a real workout for a 4WD vehicle, too! Deep ruts, killer mud puddles, steep inclines with loose rocks. I put my truck into 4WD low for some of it. Anyway — this particular spot is amazing. You can see the road going up over the distant hills for miles. The road is also rather narrow, with narrow shoulders. I pull my truck as far up into the trees as I dare and hope nobody comes along.

Here’s my setup:

I’ll probably come back here over the next few weeks and paint more views as the color changes.

  1. Hi,

Something changed. I could not “comment” the way I usually do. .. so here it is.

The few colored leaves just “make” this painting. I LOVE the “tunnel effect” in the photo.
