White Pine at Antrim Creek

“White Pine at Antrim Creek” — plein air field study in oil on wood board 8 x 10″ by Margie Guyot

Here’s another plein air from yesterday. There are some magnificent pines on the dunes along Lake Michigan. Having grown up in Iowa, I’m always amazed at the beauty of pine trees. The “light green things” in the foreground are bracken and they seem to flourish anywhere. A sign posted at the entrance asked people to stay on the established trails. Dunes are subject to destruction by too much foot traffic. And there is a native thistle that only grows on the freshwater dunes of the Great Lakes and nowhere else: https://naturenearby.org/cirsium-pitcheri-a-thistle-at-risk/ So I behaved and parked my easel in a safe spot along the trail. From this spot I continued further along the path to the beach, where I painted a view of Antrim Creek emptying into Lake Michigan (in yesterday;’s post).

And yes, today I’m SORE from pulling that wagon! Gotta see if I can come up with a better system. Here’s my setup:
