Back to Fisherman’s Island

Here’s the first one of the day. Haven’t decided on the name. Calling it No. 1 for now, A beautiful morning here. This is at Fisherman’s Island State Park, just south of Charlevoix. That’s Lake Michigan. Having grown up in Iowa, where all the ponds were brown, I am amazed at the wonderful colors of water up here.

And here’s No. 2. I liked the patterns of shadows and sunlight falling across the road. Kind of an unusual composition, but that’s why I chose to paint it. Painting is never a sure thing — there’s always an element of risk involved.

And finally here’s No. 3 of the day. This is way at the south end of the park. A favorite spot for people to come and splash around on the beach. I was glad I’d thrown my collapsible wagon into the truck. Lots of gear to get over the trail to this spot. The old French easel I’d bought (used) back in 1985 is perfect for this sandy spot. My 3 Soltek easels will probably remain in the studio for the rest of the summer. Sand clogs up their legs.
