I’d sworn to friends just lately that I was DONE with still lifes. I was going back to landscapes. And of course now I’m working on a painting with pigs. I couldn’t explain, other than that they were calling to me. Some are piggie banks. One is a milk pitcher. Another is a flower pot. I’ve collected a few over the years and they were making me smile. I thought I’d start out doing a grissale (sp? I don’t know — I was a music major). Anyway, by doing the drawing in shades of gray, it theoretically seems easier to make corrections.
I’ve been more-or-less laid up this summer with sciatica and sitting on my hiney in a cool studio with a cat or two, painting smiling piggies seems like just the thing to do.
