Rex Beach — Looking South

“Rex Beach — Looking South” — plein air field study in oil on wood panel 8 x 16″ by Margie Guyot

Finally getting out to paint again! I’d been more-or-less laid up the entire month of May with a nasty case of sciatica. Rex Beach is only 3 miles from my house and usually I’m the only one there. Like a OWN the whole shoreline (ha ha). It was rather brisk (as usual) with the breeze coming off Lake Michigan, but refreshing.

My setup this morning. Got that fold-up wagon from Amazon and it’s worth every penny! Note the fold-up tray that is holding my can of turps. And yes, I have a Soltek easel (3, actually), but you’re asking for trouble if you use one in sand! For this situation, my old French easel is perfect. I bought that used from a neighbor back around 1995 — and it was old then!
